Outland Spousal or Common-Law Partner Sponsorship

The outland spousal/common-law partner sponsorship is not a standalone immigration program but a part of the Spousal Sponsorship program under the Family Class category. Any Canadian citizen or permanent resident can sponsor their spouse or common-law partner for Canadian permanent residence regardless of where the sponsored person is currently residing. However, both the sponsor and the sponsored person must be approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for the sponsored person to receive the permanent residence visa. Inland Spousal or Common-Law Partner Sponsorship

Similar to the outland version, inland spousal/common-law partner sponsorship is not an independent immigration program but part of the Spousal Sponsorship program under the Family Class category. Canadian citizens or permanent residents can sponsor their spouse or common-law partner for Canadian permanent residence if the couple has been living together in Canada at the time of application. Both the sponsor and the sponsored person must be approved by IRCC for the sponsored person to receive the permanent residence visa.

These programs reflect Canada’s commitment to family reunification and acknowledge the importance of immediate family members in fostering individual happiness and contributing to the Canadian economy. Family Class applications are given priority processing by Canadian visa offices and Centralized Intake Offices (CIOs).
