Both the Canadian federal government and the Quebec provincial government offer distinctive immigration pathways for individuals who possess self-employment capabilities.

There are two self-employed persons programs available:

1. Federal Self-Employed Persons Program:

This program provides a streamlined immigration route for individuals with relevant experience in the following fields:

– Farming (Terminated)
– Athletics
– Recreation-related occupations
– Sports
– Art and cultural occupations

Applicants must have a clear plan detailing how they will contribute to their respective field upon obtaining permanent residency in Canada. To view the list of occupations recognized by IRCC for this program, click here. To learn more about the Federal Self-Employed Persons Program, click here.

2. Quebec Self-Employed Worker Program:

Unlike the federal program, the Quebec Self-Employed Worker Program does not specify any particular area or industry. Any individual capable of creating their own job in the province of Quebec is eligible to apply under this category, provided they:

– Have a genuine interest in migrating to the province of Quebec
– Can establish their own job by practicing their profession or trade in Quebec
– Possess a net worth of at least C$100,000 (this can include shared assets, where assets are jointly owned by the applicant and their spouse or common-law partner)
– Have worked in the profession or trade for a minimum of 2 years from the date of application
